H.E. PhD. Laura Elena Suazo Torres

H.E. Suazo Torres (PhD) is the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Livestock, Honduras. She is a seasoned expert in agriculture, climate change adaptation, and sustainable rural development, with over 15 years of leadership in academia, policy, and international cooperation.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering from El Zamorano, and multiple Master’s Degrees in Agricultural Vocational Education and Rural Sociology (Louisiana State University), Climate Change (European University of the Atlantic), and Environmental Management (International Ibero-American University of Puerto Rico). She earned her Ph.D. in Agricultural Extension with a focus on International Agriculture and Environmental Sociology from Cornell University.

Minister Suazo Torres previously served for 15 years at Zamorano University, where she became Full Professor and led initiatives in climate adaptation, ecological agriculture, and sustainable development. She has also collaborated extensively with international and national organizations to promote food security, risk management, and inclusive agricultural growth.
