Indonesia
Status: Member Country
Indonesia is the world's largest producer, consumer and exporter of palm oil. In 2023, according to Oil World data, Indonesia produced 48.43 million tonnes and exported around 28.63 million tonnes of palm oil. Indonesia accounted for 59% and 56% of the world's total production and exports of palm oil, respectively. Indonesia consumed 20 million tonnes of palm oil in 2023. The oil palm industry is important to enhance the wellbeing of the oil palm smallholders which account for about 41% of total oil palm planted areas. The Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification scheme will be mandatory for all oil palm growers and smallholders by 2025. The total oil palm harvested area in Indonesia was 14.17 million hectares in 2025. Indonesia enacted the full implementation of B35 programme (blend of 35% palm biodiesel with petroleum diesel) since 1 August 2023, which makes Indonesia the first country in the world using the highest blend of biodiesel.
Malaysia
Status: Member Country
Malaysia is the second largest producer and exporter of palm oil in the world. In 2023, Malaysia exported 15.13 million tonnes of palm oil. Malaysia has successfully enhanced their productivity by increasing the production to 18.55 million tonnes on 5.1 million hectares as compared with 2022 where Malaysia had 5.14 million hectares of oil palm plantation and produced around 18.45 million tonnes of palm oil. In 2023, Malaysia accounted for 22.8% and 29.6% of the world total production and exports of palm oil, respectively. Oil palm is the nation's most valuable agricultural crop, contributing significant export earnings annually and provides job opportunities to millions of people. In 2022, the exports of palm oil and palm - based products were valued at USD30 billion. The industry is committed to produce palm oil in accordance with the mandatory Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification scheme since 1 January 2022.
Honduras
Status: Member Country
Honduras is the country with the largest plantation area and production of palm oil in Central America. Oil Palm occupies around 225,000 hectares of agricultural land, producing around 655,000 tonnes of palm oil in 2025. Honduras ranked at number 9 of the world's top palm oil producers. Traditionally, palm oil has been produced for the food industry to make products such as cooking oil and margarine. Lately, Honduras intensively promotes palm biodiesel. Small scale producers are dominant. Comprising over 18,700 persons, organized in social - sector enterprises / cooperatives and as individual producers, they own and operate 68% of total palm oil planted area in Honduras. Honduras is a net palm oil exporter. Around 77% of the country's production (2023) went overseas, primarily to Latin America countries. Export leans primarily on eleven palm oil extraction plants owned by six export companies.
Colombia
Status: Observer Country
Colombia is the largest producer of palm oil in America and the fourth largest in the world. In 2023, Colombia produced 1.84 million tonnes of palm oil from the oil palm harvested area of 535,000 hectares. There are 161 municipalities in 21 regions of the country involved in the palm oil industry, creating around 200,000 jobs, both direct and indirect. About 70% of palm oil produced was sold domestically and 30% for export markets, with Europe as a major destination.
Ghana
Status: Observer Country
Palm oil is the most important edible oil in Ghana. Oil World estimated that Ghana produced about 590,000 tonnes of palm oil in 2023 from around 406,000 hectares of the oil palm harvested area. The Government of Ghana inaugurated a Tree Crop Development Authority in September 2020 to regulate and create a conducive environment for the growth and development of tree and industrial crops including oil palm.
Papua New Guinea
Status: Observer Country
Papua New Guinea produced 770,000 tonnes and exported around 94% or 720,000 tonnes of palm oil in 2023. Palm oil is a leading agricultural commodity in Papua New Guinea, providing employment to more than 200,000 people in the industry. In the Medium Term Development Plan III(2018 - 2022), palm oil, one of the agricultural commodities, was identified as one of the priority export sectors.
Nigeria
Status: Observer Country
Nigeria is the fifth largest palm oil producing countries in the world and the largest producer in the African region. In 2023, Nigeria produced 1.46 million tonnes of palm oil from about 620,000 hectares oil palm planted area. Most of the oil palm planted areas are owned by smallholders which account for more than 80% of the total land area. In view of this, the oil palm smallholders play a pivotal role in the development of the oil palm industry in the country.
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Status: Observer Country
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophonie of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the country cultivates more than 175,000 hectares of oil palm. Around 62% of the oil palm cultivation is owned by 54,000 smallholders. DRC produces on average 300,000 tonnes of palm oil annually. Most of the export of palm oil goes to its neighboring country such as Burundi, Uganda and Rwanda.
