Dato’ Yusran Shah bin Mohd Yusof was born on October 7, 1969, in Kangar, Perlis. He holds a Bachelor of Economics with Honors from the University of Malaya (1993) and a Master's in International Studies from the International University of Japan (2006).
He currently serves as the Secretary-General in the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities. His service began on January 25, 1995, and he has held various positions, including roles in the Economic Planning Unit, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Education. His career progression includes positions such as Assistant Director, Chief Assistant Director, Senior Private Secretary, Senior Consultant, Deputy Secretary-General, and Secretary-General.
Throughout his career, Dato’ Yusran Shah has held significant roles, such as Assistant Director at the Economic Planning Unit, Senior Private Secretary to the Minister of Education, Senior Consultant in the Public Sector Transformation Division, Secretary of the Security Division in the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Deputy Chief Secretary in various departments. He became Secretary-General of the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities in May 2024.
Dato’ Yusran Shah has contributed to numerous activities, including serving as the Secretary of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Discovery of Temporary Detention Camps and Graves in Wang Kelian, Perlis in 2019. He is a member of the International University Niigata, Japan Alumni Association, and has participated in various national and international conferences, panels, and delegations related to national security and public service transformation.
