H.E. Muhindo Nzangi Butondo
Muhindo Nzangi Butondo is a Congolese politician, academic, and the current Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He holds a degree in Economics and Management from the Catholic University of Graben (UCG), where he teaches public finance. His academic background strengthens his reputation as a pragmatic reformer committed to rigorous public management.
He began his political career within the Mouvement Social pour le Renouveau (MSR) and was elected Provincial Deputy for Lubero in 2006. In 2011, he entered the National Assembly representing Goma, and in 2018 secured a remarkable double victory—elected National Deputy for Butembo and Provincial Deputy for Goma—becoming the province’s top vote-getter with 53,000 votes. He was appointed Minister of Higher and University Education (ESU) in August 2021, where he led significant reforms, including the adoption of the LMD system, digitalization of academic data, and improvements in university infrastructure.
In 2022, he founded his own movement, the Action des Volontaires pour la Relève Patriotique (AVRP), promoting sustainable and inclusive development. He returned to the National Assembly in 2023 as Deputy for Goma, before being elevated in 2024 to Minister of State in charge of Rural Development. In 2025, he assumed a strategic national role as Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security—a position he continues to hold today.
